September Artists in Action

Our concentration of  90 artists at the Hot Shops has forged a truly unique arts organization, and the work they do enhances the vibrant arts community in Greater Omaha. Check out the impact some of our resident artists have been making recently!

Shawnequa Linder solo exhibition at the Fred Simon Gallery

“Disorder” is on display Aug. 16 – Sept. 20. Shawnequa’s work features unique characters that evoke familiarity and enigma, inviting viewers to ponder the narrative beneath the surface. By blending reality and imagination, Shawnequa reveals the shared, often bittersweet, threads of our existence.

Matthew Shrader and Tim Barry participated in Durango Days at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, held on the Scott Campus. The event, called “Get to Know the O,” was a community awareness day where students had the chance to learn about Omaha area nonprofits and explore ways to get involved with the Hot Shops.

Josephine Langbehn, Ang Bennett, Anthony Peña, and Valerie St. Pierre Smith were all included in the 2024 Mountain Plains Biennial juried exhibition at the Salina Art Center in Salina, Kansas. The fourth iteration of the Salina Biennial affirms the power of art-making in the Mountain Plains region. Josephine said, “It was extra special to get the opportunity to see the whole exhibition in person and hear the juror’s remarks. Extra extra bonus to see your Nebraska artist friends in the show too.”
