4-Week Beginning Hand-building with Takemi Tsuruta. Tuesdays, starting Sept. 3, 6-8:30 p.m.
This is an introductory class in ceramics for making vessels without the use of a potters wheel. This class is designed to teach the fundamental skills and techniques of traditional hand building while allowing the students to explore their own creative voice. Techniques covered include coiling, using molds with slabs, surface and carving and glazing. Students by the end of the class will be able to create bowls, cups and small vases.
“I’m Takemi Tsuruta, an artist in Omaha, Nebraska. Crafting pots is my passion, reflecting my life’s journey and interests. Drawing from my Japanese American background and fervor for food and culture, my current creations are a blend of heritage and personal expression.”
All firings, glazes, and 25lbs of clay are included. Beginning tools are provided for the duration of the class. All students will need to bring an old towel to use during class.
In addition to class time, participants can schedule extra work time in the studio.
