Jean Mason
Primarily a painter, I work in oils, acrylics, watercolor and gouache. Urban sketching / travel journaling is my latest passion. Sketching and painting since I was very young, art has always been my way to capture the essence of what a new place offers.
I graduated from University of Kansas with degrees in Studio Art (textiles and painting) and Art Education. For many years, I have been a workshop facilitator, art teacher and art therapist working with all ages. I’m a docent at Joslyn and formerly with the Blanton in Austin where programs are centered on mindfulness and social justice. I also teach classes in ukulele and ceramics / hand building.
My work has been represented by galleries in New York City, Santa Fe, Tampa, New Orleans, and several galleries locally. A career highlight was being on the cover of an Italian Jazz magazine.
I’m happy to be returning home to Omaha after a 12 year sojourn to Tampa, Seattle then Austin.
