Pottery began in the 7th grade and painting began in college. For the past ten years the two have been working together. The clay forms became the subject matter of the paintings and my glazing style continues to teach me how to paint. I graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 2002 with a BFA in art and a BA in art education.
Currently, I teach kindergarten through sixth grade art at two schools in Papillion, Nebraska. The children have a huge impact on my work attitude and have brought a simple angle to my art. My primary influences are Piet Mondrian, Joan Miro, Dali, Dr. Seuss and musicians like Jimi Hendrix and Nick Drake. I enjoy balance between limited subject matter and the art elements of line, color, and space. The relationships between lines and the shapes they create allow me to plug in areas of serious color contrast.
The titles usually come last with the idea of everyone seeing something, but not everyone seeing the same thing. I have also started a nostalgia silhouette series inspired by an old elementary standard. Black and White paintings from pop culture both old and new.
