Bookbinding Workshop: Butterfly Stitch Binding

During this workshop we will bind a hard-cover blank book using colorful ribbons, thread, and coordinating bookcloth. We will learn to cover the book board with linen cloth, add decorative pastedowns, and sew the textblock in an all-along pattern over Italian cotton tapes. The sewing stitches will be gathered together in little bundles resembling springtime butterflies along the spine. This book structure features an exposed spine, lies flat, and is ideal for journaling or as a sketchbook. No experience is necessary. All tools and materials will be provided.
